Jesus is the Promised King. From the beginning of the Gospel account, Matthew makes clear that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Old Testament promised One. He is the fulfillment of the promise to Abraham as a blessing to all nations. He is the greater Moses as the One who fulfills the Law. He is the promised descendant of David whose kingdom will have no end.
