- Proverbs 16:16 How much better to get wisdom than gold!
Wisdom Brings Hope

Wisdom Brings Life
- Proverbs 4:22 For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.
- Proverbs 8:35-36 [35] For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, [36] but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death.”

- Proverbs 18:15 An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
Proverbs Sampler
- Worthwhile Returns Require Unpleasant Work
Proverbs 14:4 Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, but abundant crops come by the strength of the ox.
- The Foolish Excuse Laziness
Proverbs 22:13 The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I shall be killed in the streets!”
Proverbs 26:13–16 [13] The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! There is a lion in the streets!” [14] As a door turns on its hinges, so does a sluggard on his bed. [15] The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; it wears him out to bring it back to his mouth. [16] The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who can answer sensibly.
- The Wise Don’t Work For Wealth
Proverbs 23:4–5 [4] Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist. [5] When your eyes light on it, it is gone, for suddenly it sprouts wings, flying like an eagle toward heaven.
- Alcohol Is Deceptive And Dangerous
Proverbs 23:29–35 [29] Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Who has redness of eyes? [30] Those who tarry long over wine; those who go to try mixed wine. [31] Do not look at wine when it is red, when it sparkles in the cup and goes down smoothly. [32] In the end it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder. [33] Your eyes will see strange things, and your heart utter perverse things. [34] You will be like one who lies down in the midst of the sea, like one who lies on the top of a mast. [35] “They struck me,” you will say, “but I was not hurt; they beat me, but I did not feel it. When shall I awake? I must have another drink.”
- Veggies With Love Is Better Than Steaks With Hate
Proverbs 15:17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it.
- Be Aware Of The Burden Of Expectation
Proverbs 25:17 Let your foot be seldom in your neighbor’s house, lest he have his fill of you and hate you.
- There Are Two Sides To A Story
Proverbs 18:17 The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.
- Outward Beauty Doesn’t Change What You Are
Proverbs 11:22 Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.
- Withholding Discipline Leads To Destruction
Proverbs 19:18 Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death.
Proverbs 23:13–14 [13] Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. [14] If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol.
Proverbs 29:15 The rod and reproof give wisdom, but a child left to himself brings shame to his mother.
- Friends Rebuke Friends And Whisperers Stir The Pot
Proverbs 27:5–6 [5] Better is open rebuke than hidden love. [6] Faithful are the wounds of a friend; profuse are the kisses of an enemy.
Proverbs 26:20 For lack of wood the fire goes out, and where there is no whisperer, quarreling ceases.
- The Wise Confess, The Foolish Hide
Proverbs 28:13–14 [13] Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. [14] Blessed is the one who fears the LORD always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity.

Proverbs 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.

[5] Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. [6] Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. [7] The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight. [8] Prize her highly, and she will exalt you; she will honor you if you embrace her. [9] She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown.”

The Pursuit of Wisdom is a Matter of Life or Death
Proverbs 4:18–22
[18] But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day. [19] The way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know over what they stumble. [20] My son, be attentive to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. [21] Let them not escape from your sight; keep them within your heart. [22] For they are life to those who find them, and healing to all their flesh.
Proverbs 8:32-36
[32] “And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. [33] Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. [34] Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. [35] For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, [36] but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death.”

Talk About It
- What is the first thing you think about when you think about wisdom? If it’s God, why? If it’s not God, why not?
- Where do you go to grow in wisdom? What makes this a source of wisdom? By what authority is the counsel determined wise?
- Proverbs repeatedly states the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. How do you fear the Lord?
