Neighbors & Nations – Jesus Sends His Disciples To Proclaim The Gospel

Big Truth:
Jesus Sends His Disciples To Proclaim The Gospel

“Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” (Mark 16:15)

Big Ideas:
Jesus’ Disciples Are Not Silent

Matthew 28:18–20
[18] And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. [19] Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Jesus’ Disciples Are Ambassadors

2 Corinthians 5:17–20
[17] Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. [18] All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; [19] that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. [20] Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.

Jesus’ Disciples Speak The Truth In Love

Ephesians 4:11–16
[11] And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, [12] to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, [13] until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, [14] so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. [15] Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, [16] from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Jesus’ Disciples Pray For Boldness

Ephesians 6:15, 18-20
[15] and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. … [18] praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, [19] and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, [20] for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

Once we were far off, now we have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Our salvation comes by His grace alone, and we are charged by Jesus’ authority to go and make disciples by proclaiming the gospel.

We are reconciled and given the ministry of reconciliation (2 Cor 5:17-20). Be bold to share the good news of Christ with the people you encounter this week.

To baptize someone and teach them to obey all that Christ has commanded is a weighty responsibility. Cast off fear, doubt, and uncertainty. Trust in God’s authority, name, and presence.

Long to see God bring many into His kingdom by our church’s faithful proclamation of the gospel.
