There is one who scatters, and yet increases all the more, and there is one who withholds what is justly due, and yet it results only in want. (25) The generous man will be prosperous, and he who waters will himself be watered.
Proverbs 11:24-25
(19) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. (20) “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; (21) for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
Matthew 6:19-21
(6) The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. (7) Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (8) And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
(3) I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, (4) always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, (5) because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now.
Philippians 1:3-5
(15) And you Philippians yourselves know that in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only. (16) Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again. (17) Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit. (18) I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God. (19) And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. (20) To our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.
Philippians 4:15-20
Big Truth
Jesus followers give generously for the sake of the gospel.
(1) We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, (2) for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. (3) For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, (4) begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints– (5) and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.
2 Corinthians 8:1-5
Big Idea:
When we give, we tangibly provide to accomplish gospel work.
Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again.
Philippians 4:16
I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
Philippians 4:18
Big Idea:
When we give, we experience the joy of participating in gospel transformation.
Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again.
Philippians 4:16
(2) And Paul went in, as was his custom, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures… saying, “This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ.” (4) And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women.
Acts 17:2-4
Big Idea:
When we give, we store up treasure in heaven.
Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that increases to your credit.
Philippians 4:17
(19) “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, (20) but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
Matthew 6:19-20
Big Idea:
When we give, we glorify God by demonstrating trust in Him as our provider.
