We Go Because Jesus Did
Elder Letter by Mike Laughrun
During Jesus’ ministry, he spent a good deal of time out among those who were marginalized or looked down upon in society. It’s easy to look at that with approval. But what does that look like here, in the Tri-Cities?
It may mean volunteering at Agape to walk alongside mothers who are considering an abortion. Or being paired up with an international student who is in America for the very first time. Perhaps it’s walking the Appalachian Trail and talking to travelers from all over the country. Or just simply reaching out with a much needed meal.
And that is the same invitation he’s given to us. Later, in 2 Corinthians 5:19, Paul writes to the church, explaining our purpose. God’s mission for us, the church, is to be his “ambassadors” to the world.
This is why we have Serve & Share. It’s a platform to connect TCBC’s people to our local partners, with the goal of serving our community to then create opportunities to share the Gospel with them.
But there’s something new we’re building.
And that is GO Serve Groups.
The idea is simple:
- A leader (that could be you)
- Who has a plan,
- Takes a group of people
- To Serve in our community,
- With the goal of making disciples
- Who will then create their own groups and repeat the process.
What service will you do? Serve & Share opportunities are a great place to start. But you’re not limited to this. Think about your world and the opportunities right in front of you. Where has God placed you? If you’d like to hear about new opportunities as they become available, then sign up here.
